What are your qualifications?

Many therapists have letters after their names. The letters after my name show that I am a Registered Member of the BACP. This is important, as it indicates that I have met their standards of training and that I abide by their ethical framework. I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling, which qualifies me as a counsellor. This included training for working with children and young people, as well as working online. During my training, I had over 400 hours of face-to-face teaching, in-person skills sessions, observations, personal therapy, written assessments, and a final Viva exam with an external examiner. I also completed over 150 client hours on placement with a range of clients at the Margaret Jackson Centre in Exeter. I currently work as a volunteer counsellor at Young Devon in Exeter, working with young people. In a previous life, I worked as a qualified teacher for many years following my post-grad course (PGCE). I loved supporting children and young people developing their knowledge, finding their voice and exploring their identities and values. The BA (Hons) shows that I have a degree. In my case, it is Law with Spanish. Living abroad as part of this course and studying not just the language but also the culture, has given me a real insight into difference, diversity and inclusion.

I have had additional training in domestic abuse awareness, safeguarding children,  online and telephone counselling, bereavement, neurodivergence, behaviours that challenge and attachment based mentoring. I am committed to continually learning and providing a good service to my clients.

I am a fully qualified therapist. I am insured, DBS checked and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). I am a registered member of the BACP. The BACP is the ethical body that oversees counsellors.

What happens in a counselling session?

Whether you have a clear idea of what you want to explore in therapy or are still processing your thoughts and emotions, you don’t have to navigate it alone. My integrative counselling approach blends effective techniques from well-established and studied therapy models, providing you with the tools to overcome challenges and gain deeper self-understanding. Sessions are tailored to your unique needs—whether short-term, long-term, or somewhere in between—ensuring a supportive and flexible path to personal growth.

Our first session will focus on your goals and expectations of therapy to ensure that we are the right fit and that I am the best counsellor for you. We go through the counselling contract and my way of working so that you can ask any questions.

You are always in the driving seat, and you choose what to bring to each session - it might be that something else has come up and you would like to make that the new focus, for example. Counselling is a talking therapy, but this can also take the shape of using other tools such as emotion cards, miniatures or drawings in order to express what is going on for you. It is a time for you to be heard and seen.

What if I need to cancel
or re-arrange?

Life can be unpredictable, and I understand that sometimes plans change. If you need to cancel or rearrange your counselling session, please let me know as soon as possible. I kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice to avoid a cancellation fee. This allows me to offer the appointment to someone else who may be waiting. This will also be outlined in our Counselling Agreement.

Your well-being is important, and I want to make therapy as accessible and flexible as possible.
